My Classroom Management

I want all students to feel happy, safe, and comfortable in my class! My overall goal is to have my students want to make good choices because they love learning and being in our classroom! To promote this, I have routines and procedures in place that the students will be expected to follow. However, I make sure they see the importance and need for each one and I am flexible in changing them based on the needs of my class or a particular student, if necessary.

I use a clip chart for day to day behavior, as well as many other fun things such as filling a good job jar with beads to earn a party or filling a sheet pan with fake brownies (brownie points :) ) to earn a few minutes of a game. I also make sure that each student hears something positive from me about their behavior and their work each day. I believe in letting my students earn rewards, rather than issuing consequences. If a student chooses to not behave in a way that allows them to earn the reward, then they have chosen their “consequence”. I love to let my students earn new books for our classroom, class parties, where they sit for a day, and many other things to help promote a positive and fun environment that we still are able to learn in!

Our Clip Chart

1. Ready for Lift off: Good to go!

2. Unexpected Turbulence: Warning

3. Lost in Space: Recess Time (student comes outside still, but stands next to me for 2 minutes)

4. Captured: Teacher's Choice (Think Time Sheet or working with teacher to create a plan to improve behavior)

5. Houston, We Have a Problem: Parent/Principal Contact (Either just parent contact or both parent and principal contact).

*Students can move back up the clip chart, even if they clip down! I want students to still feel that they can be successful and have a good day, even if they have to momentarily move their clip. Students who end the day on "ready for lift off" for 5 days in a row earn a jewel to put on their clip! They get to pick a prize out of the prize drawer for every 3 jewels they get!!

All consequences coincide with the Spanish Oaks Behavior Policies. More extreme behaviors, such as physical violence, swearing, and harassment, may result in Principal contact immediately. This is part of our school behavior policy.
